High Blood Pressure

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a chronic condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated. Blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the resistance to blood flow in your arteries. When the heart pumps more blood than the arteries can handle, blood pressure increases. Over time, hypertension can damage the heart, kidneys, brain, and other organs.
